We chose heritage poultry breeds that lay colourful eggs and free range easily together. They are predator wary and many of them are very winter hardy. We also raise some rare heritage poultry breeds that have unusual features such as unique colouring, feathered feet, extra toes, muffs, beards and top hats.
Our poultry stock is rotated through the breeding pens depending on customer orders and our breeding program so please ask about chick availability and hatch dates.
Blue Colour in Poultry Facts: The blue colour in poultry and waterfowl does not breed true. Breeding two blue birds will give you blue, black and splash colours. Splash means the bird has two copies of the blue gene. It is called sport in some breeds. Black is BB, Blue is Bb, and Splash is bb. Breeding blacks/blues/splashes will give different amounts of black/blue/splash.
Some of the splash chickens have lots of spots and some will have less. They are white birds with black or grey spots. It is a rare colour. I had to hatch several hundred birds to get just a few of them over the course of several years in order to make up a small flock of them.
