Eggs

Wild Acres is a small family-owned farm that sells free-range colourful award-winning eating eggs. We are located in Spallumcheen, British Columbia in the North Okanagan region.

We believe in providing our poultry with a happy old-fashioned farm life. Our hens have free access to quality outdoor ranges where they enjoy wholesome food, unlimited water, and access to herbs, greens, and sunshine year-round. Our poultry can be seen from our farm gate running around and enjoying themselves under our giant willow tree and growing permaculture food forest.

We wash, weigh, and grade our fresh farm eggs. They are sold in new cartons and refrigerated prior to sale.

Tips on Proper Egg Washing
The temperature of the water is critical, so use a thermometer and keep your water at least at 41°C (106°F). Hot water causes the egg contents to expand slightly and increase the pressure in the egg, which prevents the water (and the bacteria) from entering. When you wash eggs in cold water, the egg contents shrink, sucking in the water and possible contaminants. To prevent this, the wash and rinse water must be at least 11°C (20°F) warmer than the egg. Remember, it is safer to not wash eggs than to wash them improperly. http://www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/$Department/deptdocs.nsf/all/cpv16398
